The work imparts basic knowledge for the evaluation of old timber constructions and shows various renovation possibilities. The third edition has been extensively revised. Among other things, the chapter "Historical timber constructions" was expanded, with striking examples from the history of timber construction and its renovation. New is the topic "Strength and deformation of waste wood", which is useful for the calculation of timber structures. Further updates: Calculation of wooden nails, increase of load-bearing capacity of beam ceilings, tables for the quick dimensioning of ashes at damaged beam heads as well as for the determination of the fire resistance of bending beams. The chapter on execution details with the comparison of defective and correct solutions is particularly interesting for planners and carpenters.
