Altar

The present volume "Altar" documents the urge of many people to elevate secular objects to the status of ritual items and to recombine them into private altars. Whether they are dust collectors, knickknacks, souvenirs, randomly found items, meaningful art, or things that are revered with seriousness and deep emotion, these objects create a peculiar narrative of their owners about themselves - not in words, but in things. Rosa Schamal has been pursuing her fascination with insignificant objects, which, when displayed, reveal their sometimes banal, sometimes touching effects, for quite some time with her camera. Peter Schneider outlines in his essay various ways to better understand the implicit order of these small things. Manuel Süess, as a typographer and designer, brings text and photography together in a congenial manner.
