Als ich im Sterben lag

The legend of Addie Bundren begins and ends in the same place: Yoknapatawpha County. Four days after Addie's death, the bereaved set off for the county seat of Jefferson to bury her. But on the way the funeral procession gets into more and more difficulties: A bridge collapses in high water, and the carriage and coffin are almost lost when crossing the river. To make matters worse, the oldest son, Cash, breaks his already crippled leg. And the daughter Dewey Dell, besides being responsible for the youngest, has to carry her secret hard enough.
