Brave Swiss – they could be sure of their recognition. For several years, they were reliable allies of Napoleonic France. In particular, their fulfillment of duty during the Russian campaign was highly regarded. In Switzerland, the melody known as the Beresina song is present with an old text – actually referring to that tragedy in 1812. The so-called Red Swiss also fought on the Iberian Peninsula and primarily served in fortress duty in 1813. The battalion from Neuchâtel, known as the Yellow Swiss, participated in the battles of Grossgörschen, Bautzen, and Leipzig. An excursus is dedicated to the Swiss General Jomini.
