Epilepsies are among the most common chronic conditions in neurology. This work on non-surgical epilepsy diagnosis and treatment in adults fills the gap between guidelines and traditional textbooks: it provides practical and case-related recommendations, explained through case studies. The authors from the Epilepsy Center Bethel rely on scientifically validated findings and the practical experience accumulated at this institution over decades. Some topics are difficult to research in the usual formats of scientific studies—here, only clinical experience can lead to practical recommendations. Special patient groups, such as people with disabilities or elderly individuals with epilepsy, for whom there are few study data, are included, as well as individuals in the prime of life who experience their first epileptic seizure. The chapters come from the fields of medicine, psychology, and social services. This reflects the fact that epilepsy affects various aspects of the lives of those affected.
