Where does German educational research stand today? Martin Rothland systematically compares quantitative and qualitatively reconstructive educational research as well as the approaches of general didactics. Based on five distinguishing features, he contrasts the three research traditions, identifies differences, and highlights both the unique contributions and the blind spots of each approach. It becomes clear that scientifically grounded insights into the nature of teaching can only be gained in light of the various research perspectives.
