In his novel, Anthony Doerr tells the story of two young people in the Second World War, the blind Marie-Laure, who flees with her father from occupied Paris to Saint-Malo, and the young orphan Werner, who is deployed in the Wehrmacht. The story inexorably drives them towards each other, exciting, labyrinthine and breathless.
