Erika Schellenberger has embarked on the trail of Ruth Rilke (1901–1972), the only daughter of Clara Westhoff and Rainer Maria Rilke, who dedicated her life to preserving her father's legacy and never stepped out of his shadow. This book is based on years of extensive research and conversations that the author has had with various eyewitnesses and experts. In particular, the friendly, personal exchange with Ruth's stepdaughter Uta Addicks, who opened her family archive to Erika Schellenberger, has made it possible for this book to offer previously unpublished material from primary sources and valuable new insights into the life and work of the poet and his family.
