For the treatment of alcohol dependence, health insurance companies and pension insurers establish a framework that restricts the therapeutic approach and, consequently, the development opportunities for clients. Rudolf Klein and Gunther Schmidt describe proven alternatives to these conditions, both regarding the presumed reasons for the development of alcohol dependence and concerning therapeutic goals and treatment methods. They contrast traditional and common psychotherapeutic methods with modern systemic and hypnosystemic approaches. The advantages of these approaches become particularly evident at critical points, such as in dealing with ambivalences or when working in and with coercive contexts. Against the backdrop of their decades of practice, the authors outline the challenges of both outpatient and inpatient treatment.
