Every culture has its peculiarities, every person is unique – and yet there are many patterns in thinking and behavior across cultures. Those who take a closer look at the overwhelming diversity will encounter numerous fundamental similarities: people have the same understanding of "play" and usually share similar notions of "love," and all cultures have initiation rituals. Ethnologist Christoph Antweiler illustrates with examples from around the world that cultures have more in common than current identity struggles might suggest. The "clash of cultures" appears to be a phenomenon of the elites and primarily rages in the mass media.
