CORDIC, also known as the Digit-by-Digit method and Volder's algorithm, is a digital special-purpose computer for real-time calculations in the air. It employs a unique computing technique particularly suited for solving the trigonometric relationships involved in rotating planar coordinates and converting rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates. With advancing technology and constraints regarding performance, operating frequency, and power consumption, these architectures consume more hardware when generating trigonometric functions using multipliers, adders, and dividers, leading to increased computation time. This processor mitigates the issues of division and multiplication. In the CORDIC processor, we can compute functions using shifters, adders, and subtractors. The CORDIC algorithm is now used in many applications, such as in the multimedia industry and digital signal processing, including smoothing filters, DCT, and FFT. Since the CORDIC algorithm was initially implemented in hardware, there were some challenges such as scaling factors and time consumption.
