Aleksandr Zatayevich
Iustinus Tim Avery, 2011Product details
The book "Aleksandr Zatayevich" offers a comprehensive insight into the life and work of a significant Russian music ethnographer who intensely studied Central Asian folk music. Aleksandr Zatayevich, born on March 20, 1869, in Oryol, was a self-taught musician and ethnographer who lived in various cities such as Warsaw, Moscow, and St. Petersburg before settling in Orenburg in 1920. There, he dedicated himself to the research and documentation of Kazakh folk music, leaving behind an impressive legacy of about 3,000 instrumental melodies. Zatayevich was not only a collector but also a researcher who wrote over 2,300 pieces of Kazakh folk music and developed a categorization system for this music. His contributions to music criticism and analysis, particularly through his publications in the Warsaw Diary, are also significant. He passed away on December 6, 1936, in Moscow.
