Augustine in Life, Work, and Teaching
The Augustine Lexicon serves as both a conceptual and a factual lexicon. It catalogues, in alphabetical order, terms, individuals, and matters that are significant to Augustine's life, work, and teachings. To present broader contexts, the lexicon considers not only Augustine's biography and writings but also his ecclesiastical political stance, the personalities surrounding him, and the historical context of his time. Due to the vast and only partially explored influence of Augustine on subsequent generations, the history of his impact is excluded. The articles are published in German, English, or French. Articles written in other languages are translated into one of the three languages in agreement with the contributors.
Edited by Cornelius Mayer in collaboration with Isabelle Bochet, Robert Dodaro, François Dolbeau, Volker Henning Drecoll, Erich Feldmann, Therese Fuhrer, Wilhelm Geerlings, Reinhart Herzog, Wolfgang Hübner, Martin Klöckener, Serge Lancel, Goulven Madec, Christof Müller, Gerard J. P. O’Daly, James J. O’Donnell, Alfred Schindler, Otto Wermelinger, Antonie Wlosok. Editorial responsibility: Andreas E. J. Grote. Under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz. Supported by funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Bavarian State Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts.
