Since a mysterious event shook the area more than thirty years ago, Area X has been surrounded by an invisible boundary. No one knows exactly what happens beyond it, but there are rumors of a changing nature that overgrows the remnants of human civilization, a nature that is as pristine and enchanting as it is disturbing and threatening. A secret government organization called Southern Reach is responsible for the area, tasked with discovering what occurs beyond the boundary. However, none of the expeditions that Southern Reach has sent into the area to find explanations for the unexplainable have been successful so far. Most of the expeditions ended in disaster, with all members ultimately losing their lives, and time is running out to find answers, as Area X seems to be expanding at an ever-increasing rate.
