Freedom of disposition, which gives everyone the right to make dispositions upon death, as well as private autonomy, which enables dispositions to be made inter vivos both in return for payment and free of charge, are often in conflict with the statutory right to a compulsory portion. In order to guarantee the aforementioned right to a compulsory portion, the law has created the inheritance law institution of an action for reduction, which is to be analysed in this study.
