Air Bath

Hodel, Schumacher, and Clavadetscher were an artist trio that existed from 1991 until the death of Martin Hodel in 1995. During this time, Martin Hodel and Eric Schumacher studied and lived in Vienna, while Andrea Clavadetscher was in Zurich. Exhibitions and projects were conceived collaboratively on-site, with drawings being sent back and forth between the cities and locations of their travels. Hodel, Schumacher, and Clavadetscher used a wide variety of materials and media, opening their art to subcultural phenomena, particularly techno. Luftbad showcases their works on paper, a significant aspect of their joint creation. They mailed images to each other, continuously repainting and adding to them until they were fully layered. Each sheet is a dense collection of images, a sensual forest of signs, which together form a cosmic image where influences from art unfold.
