Young People in Crisis: Providing and Preserving Opportunities. 16% of children and adolescents in Germany exhibit signs of psychological distress, yet only one-third seek professional help. Many treatment options also end upon reaching the age of 18. How can the psychosocial care of adolescents and young adults be successful? This book consolidates expertise on mental illnesses in adolescence and demonstrates how young people can be supported through interdisciplinary cooperation and continuous guidance. In recent years, specific treatment and support services in the field of adolescent psychiatry have developed in many regions of Germany, aiming to ensure continuous psychosocial support for young adults in psychological crises through networking and collaboration. The services range from prevention to the transition into adult psychiatry, as well as support for system disruptors and care leavers. Examples include the home treatment offer for young people and their parents in Baden-Württemberg, the cooperation between schools, youth services, and psychiatry in Würzburg, and the networking of providers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is clear that the psychosocial care of young people with mental health issues should be understood as a shared responsibility of all involved institutions and providers.
