Judith N. Shklar is regarded as the most important theorist of liberalism in the 20th century and stands alongside prominent figures such as Hannah Arendt and John Rawls in her American homeland. Known primarily for the concept of "the Liberalism of Fear," her work is much more diverse and includes intellectual history studies as well as reflections on injustice and citizenship.
