Acoelomata
German, 2010Product details
Triploblasts in the broader sense are tissue animals in which three germ layers develop from the blastula during gastrulation. The three-germ-layered, or triploblastic, embryo is more specifically referred to as a triploblast. The three germ layers are ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. Differentiation of various tissues occurs from these germ layers. Triploblasty (three-germ-layeredness) is found in all originally bilaterally symmetrical animals and is evidently directly linked to the evolutionary emergence of bilateral symmetry. In contrast, diploblasty (two-germ-layeredness) is found in cnidarians, while monoblasty (one-germ-layeredness) is present in the tissue-less metazoans, such as sponges and the placozoan Trichoplax adhaerens.
