Product details
Alexander Fromm traces in his knowledgeable little cultural history the key milestones of how lysergic acid diethylamide became the rocket fuel for psychonauts due to an oversight by the Basel chemist Albert Hofmann. In April 1943, the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann discovered the consciousness-altering effects of LSD. Psychotherapists quickly recognized the substance's potential and used it to treat alcoholism and to accelerate psychoanalysis. The CIA even hoped to use it as a truth serum and introduced countless Americans to LSD through nationwide testing programs. Especially among poets, musicians, and painters, this stimulant led to an increase in creativity. Through the hippies, acid became a youth and fashion drug - indeed, it defined the sixties as its own era.
