Heinz-Joachim Barchmann (November 17, 1950, in Wunstorf-Idensen; also known as Achim Barchmann) is a German politician (SPD) and trade unionist. Barchmann is a member of the board of directors of AOK Niedersachsen and has been a member of the German Bundestag since October 2009. After graduating from business school, Barchmann completed a commercial apprenticeship. From 1982 to 1985, he obtained his Abitur at evening school, after which he studied at the Social Academy in Dortmund. Since 1987, he has been working as a secretary in the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). From 1992, he served as chairman of the DGB district of Wolfsburg-Gifhorn-Helmstedt, and since 2007, he has been the chairman of the DGB region of South East Lower Saxony.
