Ach, diese Lücke, diese entsetzliche Lücke

From someone who set out to become an actor - and moves in with his grandparents. In his early twenties, the narrator in Joachim Meyerhoff's third novel experiences the unexpected: he is accepted into the acting school in Munich and moves into his grandparents' bourgeois villa. The days of the former actress and the emeritus professor of philosophy are structured by adventurous rituals, in which alcohol plays a significant role. The narrator becomes a wanderer between worlds. During the day, he is systematically deconstructed at the acting school, and in the evenings, he drowns his confusion on the opulent sofa in red wine. Yet, he notices that his grandparents are also struggling against a great emptiness while he is supposed to lay bare his innermost self on stage, and almost always fails spectacularly.
