Ecologically, regionally, and sustainably operating businesses are highlighted.
Numerous short essays sprinkled throughout offer interesting background knowledge. In-italy.de writes: "One of the most comprehensive Abruzzo travel guides currently available." The Outdoor Handbook states: "The only truly useful travel guide [to Abruzzo] on the German market."
Overview of Abruzzo
The Gran Sasso massif towers over the provincial capital Teramo and 50 kilometers of coastline with fine sandy beaches in the well-developed northern part of the region. L'Aquila, the capital of Abruzzo, lies at the foot of Gran Sasso. The Aterno Valley and the Campo Imperatore plateau. Time stands still in picturesque mountain villages. Marsica and Piana del Fucino, with the main town of Pescasseroli, border the forest-rich Abruzzo National Park, which is home to bears, wolves, lynxes, and chamois.
For centuries, the majestic Maremma-Abruzzo shepherd dog has been a loyal companion to shepherds and herders. The economic center is Pescara, home to notable museums. Roman traces can be found in Chieti and Sulmona. Stunning landscapes in the Majella National Park feature some of the most beautiful villages in Abruzzo.
South of Pescara lies the Costa dei Trabocchi. The seaside resort of Vasto enchants with its picturesque old town perched high above the sea. The old town of Tremoli also overlooks the waters. The inland areas in the south delight nature lovers and independent travelers with their almost deserted expanses.
What to do in Abruzzo?
In the national parks and forested areas, mass tourism is largely absent.
