800 Jahre Familie Meiss von Zürich

Between Oberer Kirchgasse, the Lindengarten, and the Florhof once lay the Meiss Quarter. The family can look back on a history of at least 800 years and is still based in Zurich today. This overview is not an encyclopedic family history, but a varied illustrated volume about a family that rose to the top of Zurich society during the late Middle Ages and played a significant role in the city and the Zurich countryside as bailiffs and landowners for centuries. With the upheaval after 1800, the Meiss family had to reinvent itself. The "Teufener" Meiss emigrated to Austria but returned to Zurich in the 20th century. The Wülflingen branch was involved in various industries. The family has been a member of the Society of Shield Bearers at Schneggen since its founding in the late 14th century, as well as the Society at Constaffel.
