50 Jahre Frauenstimmrecht

On February 7, 1971, Swiss men finally voted in favor of women's suffrage and voting rights after several failed referendums. Fifty years later, 25 women reflect on the past and look to the future. The breakthrough came late – much later than in neighboring countries – but the struggle also has a long history in Switzerland. Why did it take almost 100 years to achieve political equality? What role does voting rights play for women today? Do women vote differently? What is the current state of gender equality in politics, economics, culture, and public life? What has been achieved, and where is further action needed? "50 Years of Women's Suffrage" brings together texts and interviews with well-known Swiss women of all political backgrounds and ages, who address the topics of voting rights, democracy, and equality from their diverse perspectives. It covers history and present, but above all, it focuses on the future of equality – because there is still much to be done!
