After being out of print for a long time, there is now a revised edition of the classic "3x3 Avalanches" by internationally recognized author Werner Munter. "3x3 Avalanches," the first avalanche textbook from the perspective of a professional mountain guide, caused a stir in the expert community in 1997. It revolutionized traditional avalanche science and led to a paradigm shift. For the first time, the focus was not on the rescue of avalanche victims, but on prevention, the question of whether to go or not to go.

In practical avalanche science, the main goal is to make yes/no decisions in critical situations, often in a matter of minutes, which can determine lives. The author replaced the complicated and inaccurate analyses of snowpack profiles with simple accident patterns: What combination of danger level, slope angle, slope exposure, tracks in the slope, group size, and distances (the 5 key variables) triggers the most slab avalanches?.
