100 Schlösser Route

The 100 Castles Route takes you into the wonderfully diverse park landscape of the green Münsterland. This area is characterized by meadows and pastures, interspersed with small woods and hedgerows. Charming towns and villages, dreamy rural communities with half-timbered houses, and of course, over 100 castles, water castles, manors, and stately estates give the cycling route its name. The lush, fertile lowland of the Münster Bay is framed by the Hohe Mark and smaller mountain ranges along the Lippe and Ruhr rivers to the south and the Teutoburg Forest to the north. The transition to the flatlands in the Lower Rhine region and the Netherlands to the west is hardly noticeable in terms of landscape - including the open border everywhere. At the heart of this region lies the cycling city of Münster, which boasts nearly twice as many bicycles as residents, with around half a million bikes.
