Product details

Reprint with additions of the 1949 printed and now out-of-print book "Is Paris Burning? Adolf Hitler." Is Paris burning? This cynical question was posed by Adolf Hitler from the Führer headquarters Wolfsschanze to German command posts in France in August 1944, after he had previously ordered: "Paris is to be turned into a heap of rubble," given the hopeless situation. The last German commander in Paris, Dietrich von Choltitz, Commander General of the Infantry and Wehrmacht Commander of Greater Paris, recounts why it did not burn. Equipped by Hitler with the broadest powers of a commander of a besieged fortress, he skillfully acted and presented himself as a soldier, successfully averting the terrible danger from the French metropolis. A factual report driven by the will to serve peace and reason, paving the way for understanding between the two nations. Editor: Timo von Choltitz, son of Dietrich von Choltitz, who passed away in 1966 in Baden-Baden, Commander General of the Infantry and Wehrmacht Commander of Greater Paris.
