Trenddeko Frederick - The Arctic Ocean

Characteristic of the Romantic era is a melancholic aura of the images.

This also characterizes many works by the painter Caspar David Friedrich, born in 1774.

Contrary to the otherwise so often romantically dreamy motifs of Caspar David Friedrich, the 1823/24 painting "The Arctic Ocean" is endowed with a certain drama. An arctic landscape, under whose the accumulation of sharp-edged ice floes still parts of a sailing ship are recognizable, touches and fascinates at the same time.

The original hangs in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg and was painted around 1823. It was painted with oil on canvas.
