With my lamp, you could "hide" the cable in the attachment to the ceiling and shorten it accordingly. If that is not possible here (unfortunately I don't have it), there is something like CableCup, in which you could also hide the cable.

Very nice as a decorative luminaire, but I find this too punctual for a dining table and if a bulb is bright enough, it is likely to dazzle.
