Advent Calendar "Dresden Striezelmarkt"
The Dresden Striezelmarkt as an Advent calendar is a must-have in the Brück & Sohn collection. The origins of the Dresden Striezelmarkt date back to 1434, making it one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany. Its name is derived from the Middle High German "Struzel" or "Striezel," which is now known as the Dresden Stollen. The Dresden Striezelmarkt has preserved many of its traditions and continues to celebrate them to this day. The Dresden Stollen and the Dresden Pflaumentoffel, which the Striezel children sold at the old Striezelmarkt, are perhaps the two most famous highlights of the Dresden Striezelmarkt.
The renowned Romantic painter Ludwig Richter immortalized the Striezel children in a woodcut. They are depicted sitting at the Dresden Striezelmarkt, selling Pflaumentoffel, those little figures made from dried plums that are as much a part of Saxon Christmas as the Christmas tree. Lovingly integrated into the design of the Advent calendar are the windows to be opened. The images reveal elements of the Christmas season and Saxon traditions that could actually be found in this very place. So be curious and invite all your friends to stroll through the Dresden Striezelmarkt.
