This first series "Figure," consisting of small figures that serve as decorative items, is the initial concrete result of a new direction. The intention behind it is to withstand comparison with the fascinating world of porcelain figurines, particularly with the elegant manufacturing tradition of European factories since the 18th century, but of course in the unique style of Alessi.

It was in 1991 when we at Alessi first discussed figurines, following a workshop with the Trash Designers from the East Village of New York the winter before. After exploring fetishes and the animistic properties of objects—topics that intersected during those years in the METAPROJEKT Family Follow Fiction—we believed that a creative evolution could potentially be expressed in a collection of porcelain figurines.
