Ensure that your candle does not feel cold when lit and that the first burn lasts at least two hours. To avoid tunneling, you want the liquid wax to reach the edge. Generally, the wick should be kept at about 15 mm to prevent an unruly flame. Trimming is best done before lighting. Try to avoid short burn times, as this can promote tunneling. Also, avoid burn times longer than 4 hours. Make sure there are no residues on the wax, as these can affect the flame and potentially cause smoke.
