Advent calendar Bavarian customs

In Bavaria, customs are not just tourist folklore or museum "customs", but part of everyday life and an expression of the way of life. Despite, or perhaps because of, secularisation and commercialisation, more and more people are fascinated by the numerous traditions in the run-up to Christmas, even if they no longer know their origins or religious meaning and imagery. This Advent calendar shows the liveliness and richness of Bavarian folk customs between 1 and 24 December and carries them into the family and public space as spiritual inspiration and enrichment. The Advent ambivalence of darkness and light, penitence and anticipation as well as fear and confidence is reflected in the Bavarian customs in the best possible way and is harmonised in the juxtaposition of comforting candlelight and terrifying envelopes of demons, Te.
