Lean back and enjoy: Introducing the Republic of Fritz Hansen

Interior designer Fritz Hansen is one of the dinosaurs of Danish furniture design. And he's more popular than ever, thanks to his timeless classics. Allow me to explain why the following items are worth the investment and what makes the Danes so good at design.
When Fritz Hansen bought a small carpenter’s workshop in Copenhagen back in 1872, he did not realise that he was laying the foundation for a fairy-tale-like success story. His own furniture collections were soon complemented with pieces by other renowned designers – including Poul Kjaerholm and Arne Jacobsen. The latter famously created the «Egg Chair» in 1958. A design cult classic that makes furniture lovers gasp to this day – me included.

Five reasons why the Danes are great at design
Hygge: When it comes to design, nobody strikes the balance between comfort and beauty quite as well as the Scandinavians.
Calm down: Typically nordic colours are muted shades like greys and beiges. They have a calming effect and provide a great contrast to our busy professional lives.
Minimalism: You’ll look in vain for frilly details. But clear, sobre lines and high-quality designs are daily business up north. This formula makes the designs equally appealing to men and women.
Eye-catchers: The designer objects turn every nook into an eye-catcher. In other words, a chair doesn’t necessarily have to be sat. it will work just as well as a decorative element.
Investment: Quality comes at a price, so it’s worth splashing out. In return, you’re investing in a timeless piece that won’t suffer a loss of value – on the contrary.
