Wikipedia presents the knowledge of the world in the digital age. In doing so, it aligns itself with the Enlightenment thinkers of the 18th century and stands in contrast to the irrational excesses of digital filter bubbles. But what do the production conditions of this knowledge look like in practice, and by what criteria is "true" knowledge distinguished from "false" knowledge? Olaf Rahmstorf diagnoses, from a sociological perspective of knowledge, a reductive formalism that overrides substantive argumentation. From this starting point, he analyzes the "Neutral point of view," the formal and epistemological core of Wikipedia, confronts it with the findings of contemporary theories of rationality, and ultimately develops a discourse-theoretical definition of Wikipedia.
