Vivaldi's Unheard Story.
During his lifetime, he was a celebrity; today, his compositions are among the most performed worldwide. In the meantime, Antonio Vivaldi's work was completely forgotten until its rediscovery 100 years ago. In this virtuoso novel, Peter Schneider tells the story of the musical visionary and gifted teacher.
Peter Schneider embarks on the trail of the ordained priest and musician in baroque Venice. And what he discovers is an almost unknown work of the maestro: Throughout his life, the "prete rosso" worked at an orphanage and founded the first women's orchestra in Europe with musically talented girls. He wrote a large part of his concertos for them and performed with them. Peter Schneider presents himself as a thoughtful narrator who never fully succumbs to the temptation of fiction but remains inquisitive and recounts his research. "Vivaldi and His Daughters" portrays the composer as a man of his time, who must assert himself against the church's suspicions as well as his own temptations. His "amicizia" with the young singer Anna Girò becomes a source of contention and inspiration.
