As a saxophonist, Dave McMurray's album "Grateful Dedication" was released in 2021, capturing the attention of not only jazz listeners, as it marked the first time a soul jazz musician used well-known songs from the legendary band Grateful Dead as the foundation for an album. Founded in 1965, the rock band from San Francisco, led by the charismatic frontman Jerry Garcia, is considered an icon of American counterculture and one of the first bands of psychedelic rock. Grateful Dead meets soul jazz – and it worked surprisingly well! Now, McMurray is following Hollywood's lead and releasing a sequel to the previous album with "Grateful Dedication 2." This time, the guest stars include Jamey Johnson, Oteil Burbridge, Bob James, and Blue Note chief Don Was on bass.
