UK50-25 Altmühltal Nature Park, eastern part

The official series of UK50 (recreational map 1:50000) provides targeted leisure information for contiguous Bavarian regions. The map is based on the TK50 (topographic map 1:50000) with UTM grid for GPS users and terrain representation.

The UK50-25 covers the eastern part of the Altmühltal Nature Park, the entire district of Kelheim, and a large portion of the Hallertau hop-growing region. The rivers Danube, Main-Danube Canal, Abens, and several others shape the map and flow past historic towns such as Mainburg, Neustadt a.d.Donau, Riedenburg, Abensberg, and Kelheim. Enthusiastic cyclists will find optimal conditions to explore in this region. Along the quality cycling paths of the Bavarian cycling network, such as the Altmühltal Cycle Path, one can discover, for example, the Prunn Castle near Riedenburg or the viewpoint Falkenhorst high above the district of Gundlfing. Many other beautiful castles and fortresses, as well as numerous noteworthy pilgrimage churches, can be explored along the routes of the [r]auszeit cycling experience paths and the marked paths of the counties included in the map.

Hikers are well served by the trails of the Regensburg Forest Association, the Altmühltal Panorama Trail with its loops, and the Jura Trail with its side routes. These lead along various routes to the Danube breakthrough at Weltenburg – a narrow point in the Danube Valley that is considered a nature reserve and geotope – as well as to the Roman watchtower in Hienheim near Neustadt a.d.Donau. Those seeking action in their leisure time will find fun at the wakeboarding facility wake&groove in Geisenfeld and in one of the three high ropes courses in the region. With children, one can visit the falconry Falkenhof at Rosenburg Castle, the AltmühlBob amusement park in Riedenburg, or the fossil quarry Schamhaupten in Altmannstein. The Kuchlbauer Tower in Abensberg, the Stone Bridge, and the historic Wurstkuchl in Regensburg are also highly recommended.
