UK50-22 Franconian Lake District

The official series of UK50 (topographic map 1:50000) provides targeted leisure information for contiguous Bavarian regions. The map is based on the TK50 (topographic map 1:50000) with UTM grid for GPS users and terrain representation.

The map image of UK50-22 presents the entire Franconian Lake District, including Altmühlsee, the small and large Brombachsee, and Rothsee. In the south, hilly and varied landscapes can be found, characterized by Hesselberg with its 689 m, Hahnenkamm, and the Franconian Jura with the Altmühltal. Gunzenhausen, Weissenburg i.Bay., and Roth represent the urban centers of the map.

Cyclists will certainly not get bored here. The diverse paths of the Franconian Lake District and the cycling loops around Brombachsee are just a few examples of great day trips. For those looking to cycle longer tours, the Bayernnetz für Radler routes are recommended, such as the Franconian Water Cycle Path or the Rothsee-Brombachsee Path. The Altmühltal Cycle Path passes directly by the notable geotope, the rock formation "Twelve Apostles" near Solnhofen.

For hikers, the area north of Brombachsee and around Altmühlsee is particularly attractive. The Rangau-Rangweg passes directly by the well-known observation tower Vogelinsel in Altmühlsee in Muhr a.See. History enthusiasts and romantics will be well served by the parade route in the Franconian Lake District, "Der Seeländer."

Excursions with children are especially appealing to the Adventure Forest Enderndorf with its high ropes course, Miniature Land Treuchtlingen, the summer toboggan run at Erlebnispark in Pleinfeld, or the fossil quarry Blumenberg near Eichstätt. Other excursion destinations include the Fürst Carl Wildlife Park near Höttingen and the Bergwaldtheater in Weissenburg. For swimming fun, Novamare in Neuendettelsau and Juramare in Gunzenhausen are great options.
