With this large work, Michael Köhlmeier follows up on his bestseller "Two Gentlemen on the Beach." On her 100th birthday, architect Anouk Perleman-Jacob invites a writer and asks him to tell her life story as a novel. Born in St. Petersburg, she experiences the Bolshevik terror. Along with other intellectuals, she is deported into exile as a young girl with her family on one of the so-called "Philosopher Ships" on Lenin's orders. After the ship drifts for five days and nights in the Gulf of Finland, a final passenger is brought on board and sent into exile: it is Lenin himself.
