The Kooks:10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark

Just back from an international stadium tour, the band from Brighton once again stormed the UK Top 10 in 2018 with their album predecessor 'Let's Go Sunshine', and subsequently found themselves at the top of the posters for the biggest festivals across Europe. The recent streaming boom has even brought the band more (and many younger) fans who were eager to experience their unique indie rock sound live.

Although the album was ultimately created in these two locations, the Berlin connection is clearly felt throughout '10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark'. And even though they flirt with entirely different genres—80s synth-pop, funk, and even prog elements—the sixth album still sounds like a pure indie rock album, unmistakably bearing the Kooks' signature.

In fact, with the new LP, they are not trying to reinvent the wheel. Instead, they take the classic Kooks sound and give it a subtly retro-futuristic touch—both sonically and in the overall feel: in the very attitude with which these songs were created. It’s an album that is primarily about hope: maintaining that hope, seeing the good in the world, no matter how bleak it may seem.

Above all, the new album showcases a band that still has its career peak ahead of it. They are right to place their bets on optimism from now on, trusting that the future will be less grim.
