Der Traum der Hebamme

Disillusioned, Marthes' son Thomas returns from the Crusade in the autumn of 1191. However, he finds no peace at home, as the cruel Albrecht rules over the Mark of Meissen. When he attacks his brother Dietrich, with whom Thomas fought in the Holy Land, both have no choice but to take up arms once again. The situation seems hopeless, so Dietrich must enter into a tactical alliance with the Landgrave of Thuringia. In return, the Landgrave demands Dietrich's engagement to his daughter. This is a high price, as Dietrich has long secretly loved Marthes' daughter Clara.
