The Appenzell calendar

Since 1721, the Appenzeller Calendar has been published every year and has successfully established itself as a timekeeper, advisor, news provider, entertainment medium, writing agenda, and wall decoration. It is one of the oldest media still published in Switzerland today. This publication dedicates itself for the first time in detail to the phenomenon of the Appenzeller Calendar, which exists in the tension between astronomy and folklore. Historian David Aragai describes the origin and the surprisingly diverse transformations of the Appenzeller Calendar, which has changed little in appearance.
