Eder:Black embroidery

In the traditional embroidery technique of Blackwork, collars, cuffs, and often entire hoods made from light fabric were originally embroidered with geometric patterns and ornaments in delicate black lines. Later, floral patterns or figures were also added. Nowadays, all colors are permitted in Blackwork, sometimes even multiple colors in a single piece, allowing the embroidery designs to be predominantly monochromatic while still being executed in a cheerful and colorful manner. Blackwork is often combined with cross-stitch or other techniques. The finished embroideries can be used for cushions, tablecloths, placemats, Christmas ornaments, etc.
