Product details
A skateboard wonder from the East Coast in his youth - there’s a story that Bucky started skateboarding after his bike was stolen. However, in reality, there was a shop owner in Baltimore named Andy who liked Bucky, supplied him with products, and made skateboarding affordable for him. He participated in amateur competitions and performed well. His fame grew to the point where Tony Hawk sent him an invitation to visit California in 1989. The model released in 1990, known as Bucky's Stadium, was one of the graphics designed by Sean Cliver during his three years at Powell Peralta. The backstory behind the unusual baseball graphic has little to do with Bucky's interest in or ability to play baseball. Bucky was not only known for being a nice, likable guy, but Sean also knew he was from Baltimore. At that time, the Baltimore Orioles were experiencing a resurgence as their new stadium was being built, and Cal Ripken Jr. was playing more consecutive baseball games than anyone thought possible. Sean saw this as an opportunity for Bucky Lasek, the nice guy that people liked, to have a board graphic featuring many of the people he admired. Boom! Nostalgic notes from the eidetic memory of Jim Fitzpatrick.
