A strange power outage plunges all of Venice into darkness. For more than half an hour, the entire lagoon city is enveloped in complete blackness.

The next morning, Commissario Luca Brassoni – as always accompanied by his dog Picco – is called to a gruesome murder. Edoardo Bianchi was shot in the heart during the night. The owner of the small antique shop next to the Café Capello Rosso, which Caruso runs with his partner Francesco, had apparently been tortured for an extended period. The investigators suspect that the murderer wanted to obtain the access code for the safe, as it is empty. And that’s not all: Francesco, who went to check on things that night, was brutally beaten in the antique shop and lies in a coma. What was in the safe that someone was willing to kill for?

Luca Brassoni takes on the case, but he is largely on his own, as his colleague Maurizio Goldini is still on paternity leave. Before the experienced commissioner can solve the mystery, another murder occurs, just before Goldini unexpectedly leads him to a hot lead...
