Travelling differently and discovering something special
With the latest tips from the Michael Müller travel guides, you can organise your trip individually, sustainably and safely.
On 192 pages with 104 colour photos, Ralf Nestmeyer presents the vibrant vitality and eventful history of France's most important port city in the third edition of our Marseille travel guide. 30 maps and plans, including public transport routes and an overview map with 25 centrally located guesthouses, hotels and camping facilities make Marseille your second home. A great extra: the removable city map at a scale of 1:10,000.
Six tours described in detail take you to every corner of the city, six excursions take you into the surrounding area. All meticulously researched on site and tried out for you. Numerous interspersed essays provide interesting background information. Ralf Nestmeyer's insider tips reveal particularly worthwhile destinations, such as accommodation or restaurants that are also frequented by locals. Ecological, regional and sustainable businesses are also highlighted.
Marseille's sights and surroundingsMassalia, the first settlement of the Greeks, today the Old Port, with the town hall and MuCEM the centre of the city. Narrow alleyways, colourful facades and graffiti show the colourful diversity in Panier and La Joliette. South of the Vieux Port, there are shopping opportunities and restaurants, with the Musée Cantini as a highlight. To the left and right of the Canebière are Arab neighbourhoods and the trendy district around Cours Julien. The coastal road La Corniche has a Mediterranean flair, and Marseille's beaches are also located here.
Visits to Malmousque, Les Goudes and Callelongue are well worthwhile. The Calanques, fjord-like coastal inlets, can also be reached from here. Some of these unique landscapes are described in detail in the Marseille travel guide. Away from the centre, Cité.
