Product details

László Moholy-Nagy (1895-1946), painter, photographer, Bauhaus teacher and founder of the "New Bauhaus" and the "School of Design" in Chicago was one of the first multi-media artists to practice painting, sculpture, photography, film and design as equivalent art genres. As one of the most important protagonists of modernism, his works set standards that continue to this day.Appointed by Walter Gropius to succeed Johannes Itten at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1923, László Moholy-Nagy moved with the latter to Dessau before leaving Nazi Germany in 1933 and finally finding his second home in Chicago in 1937. Both as a teacher and an artist, he followed his revolutionary vision of incorporating artistic activity into everyday life, thus uniting art and life. Following his radical experimental approach of not allowing any aesthetic hierarchy in his work, Moholy-Nagy moved confidently between painting, photography and film, defining himself as both a painter and a photographer. He made a significant article for the appreciation of photography, which as a new medium had not yet been regarded as art. This volume provides an excellent insight into the life and work of the avant-garde artist.
