'What is that? ' Marieke Kreyenborg, a guesthouse owner on Juist, is horrified when she discovers a mysterious object in one of her rooms: a blood-red seal representing a kind of chimera. Someone has obviously forced their way in, and the holidaymaker Birgit Vinke, who is staying in the room, has been missing since the day before. At first, island detectives Antje Fedder and Roland Witte do not assume that a crime has been committed, after all it could simply be a case of mischief and the young woman may have spent the night in another bed. However, when they find her clothes, wallet and smartphone abandoned on the beach, it is clear that something is very wrong. At the same time, more seals appear in different places. And then the body of Birgit Vinke is found - her body also adorned with the mysterious seal. Is the perpetrator a psychopath, is the seal a clue? Or is it simply intended to cause confusion? Several people on Juist become the focus of the investigation: Birgit's sister Jule and her friends - an obscure group that resembles a sect. Their 'guru' in particular, the charismatic Florian Brockstedt, is more than suspicious.
